An Idiot Abroad.

2012 | TV-14 | 3 seasons | Netflix

Are you looking for a new show to binge watch?  Well, look no further.  This is one you are going to love.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant send their friend Karl Pilkington out into the world.  I use the word friend very loosely here!

You would know Ricky Gervais from the original The Office on BBC Television.  At least that’s where I knew him from.  He and Stephen send their hapless friend Karl around the world to get him out of his comfort zone.  Karl has never left England.  And he isn’t very excited to be leaving in the first place.

This show follows him on his journey and gives you an unfiltered view of it all through Karl’s eyes.

It is absolutely, roll around on the floor funny.  I love Karl!  And I seriously would not want to be friends with Ricky or Stephen.  Seriously.

Verdict?  You must watch this show!

The OA.

2016 | TV-MA | 1 season | Netflix

The OA.  Have you seen it yet?  It is an 8 part series on Netflix.

It’s about a girl named Prairie who was blind when she went missing 7 years ago, who returns and can now see.

But that’s not what this show is about at all.  That’s just the tip of the iceberg to hook you in and suck you into this new world.  Which will then not let you go until the season is over and will leave you crying for more.

You should go watch it now.  But first, find someone to feed your children and pets.  You’ll need them taken care of while you are binge watching.

Seriously, we loved it and can’t wait for the next season.  Please hurry with the next season Netflix.  Please.

Verdict?  You must watch this show!

Buy furniture for your home, not a home for your furniture.

Do you ever watch Property Virgins on HGTV?  Back in the olden days when we actually paid a small fortune for cable, I was a die-hard fan of the original Property Virgins with Sandra Rinomato who hosted the show from 2006 to 2011.

I loved everything about that show.  Sandra was spunky, she was very knowledgeable about real estate, it was a show about buying houses – what was not to love?

I have only seen a few episodes of the new version with Egypt Sherrod and I really didn’t care for the change, but like I said, we don’t shell out the money each month for cable anymore so I’m sure that HGTV does not give a hoot about my opinion.

Anywho, as I take more and more of our unwanted belongings to our local Salvation Army each week, I am finding a new side benefit.  Not only can I breathe easier each time I take a car load of stuff away, and I can feel great about blessing another family with the abundance that we have, but I am really beginning to enjoy my home more.  Everything, every. single. thing. in my house is beginning to have a home, a place that it belongs, and I can take it there immediately if its not in its place.  And that makes me extremely happy.  It also helps me to keep my house clean.  Another benefit.

The reason that I bring up Sandra Rinomato, is she makes a statement that I am truly beginning to appreciate.  Can you guess what it is yet?

Buy furniture for your new home, do not buy a home for your furniture.

I know many people, MANY people, who would wholeheartedly disagree with this statement.  I may have been one of them at one time.  But as I find a permanent place for all of the things that I truly love and want to keep in my home, I understand that it’s seriously okay to let things go that do not meet that criteria.  Just because someone gifted us something 20 years ago does not mean that I have to hang onto it now.  And I don’t have to run out and buy something new if I have something that will fit in another spot in my house.

We have a mid-century modern desk in our house that right now is serving as our TV stand in our den.  Over fifteen years ago my home church was going to throw it away.  Seriously, throw it away.  Of course that offended my sense of everything can go somewhere besides the landfill, and it came home to our tiny house to become our computer desk.  I surfed what would become the internet on that desk, paid bills on that desk and used it for those purpose’s for many years.  This thing is built like a tank out of solid – uhmm, mahogany maybe?  There is not one piece of mdf on it.  It weighs like 600 pounds or at least it feels like it.

It then changed purposes and become my credenza in my upstairs living room for many years.  And now its a beautiful display stand for our TV with amazing nickel legs and lot’s of storage.  Similar to this, but with a pullout drawer at the top:

I love it, but when it stops being useful in our home or it doesn’t fit well in our home, it will go to our local Salvation Army store so that some other family can give themselves hernia’s taking it home to enjoy.  And that’s perfectly okay with me now.

I have to admit that it could be a lot harder to justify kicking Aunt Hilda’s retro collection of incandescent orange side chairs to the curb:

But this is where for the past year I have a taken a page from Marie Kondo.  Does it spark joy?  Do you love it?  Do you want it to live in your house?  Do you have a space for it?  No?  Then you might, just might, want to consider hauling those raging orange chairs away to your local thrift store.

P. S.  I don’t have an Aunt Hilda.  But if you do and you want to get rid of those glowing hot orange chairs, please contact me, because I can recover them with a beautiful fabric and I have the perfect spot for them in my bedroom!

The Peachoid.

peachoidHave any of you ever heard of a little show called House of Cards?  Denton finally convinced me to watch it and the first two seasons were amazing.  Or really, really scary depending on your outlook, since Robin Wright said that they are 99% accurate.  Shudder.

We haven’t watched any more of the seasons because we got caught up in other shows that were already available on Netflix.  Don’t have Netflix?  You can get your hot little hands on the show anyway here, here, here, and here.

Last year when we were car shopping I found an absolutely amazing deal on our new to us car.  In Greenville, SC.  We live in Virginia.  Why does this always shock everyone when I tell them how far we drove to pick up our new car?  We saved over $6,000.00 and Denton and I got to have an overnight vacation all.by.ourselves. in Charlotte, NC.   Win/win in my opinion.  Annnnd we had an incredible meal at Bacon Bros. Public House that you can read all about here.  Yum, it makes my mouth water to just think about it.

On our way down I-85 to Greenville, I glanced out my window and saw a giant peach standing beside the road.  It also said Gaffney up the base.  It was the water tower for the town of Gaffney, SC and it’s not just a made up thing like the imaginary BBQ joint Freddy’s from the first season that we were prepared to drive to DC to eat at.  Great BBQ is a serious matter at our house, see the link above.

We had already driven past it when I realized I needed a photo of this giant peach, so I made myself a mental note to make certain that I got a photo of it on the way home.  That wasn’t a problem because we sat in a parking lot on the interstate that afternoon for a couple of hours and I had plenty of time to make sure to have my camera ready.gaffneyI got the picture and yes it was very much worth it to drive across three states to pick up our new to us car.  Everyone thought we I was crazy so I’ll have to do a post about how to buy a car from another state and save a boatload of money in the process.

Did you know that the Peachoid was a real thing?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I love it when I can get an honest review from people, so here’s my take on this one!

We just finished watching the series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  We’ve been slowly watching it for the past year.

First, I would NOT recommend this show if your kiddo’s are under 14 years old.  Actually, I would go so far as to say 16 years old.  It would be different if it was going to take you seven years to watch the entire series like it did when it was on TV, but it’s not going to take that long.  There is some heavy, heavy stuff in the last two seasons.  Use your judgement people!!

Overall, I would have to say that we really, really liked this show.  It was campy, funny, ridiculous and sad.  I was very surprised at how they ended the series, but over all completely happy with it.

Check it out if you need to veg out and need some ridiculousness in your life!

Verdict?  Yes, watch this show.

Game of Thrones – Season Three

We just finished the third season of Game of Thrones and I have to say that as crazy and awful, and insane and amazing as the first two seasons were,  they were nothing compared to this one.

I am still reeling from the last two episodes and I don’t think I will get over it anytime soon.  I think we are going to have to hold off on the next season until I can recover from this one!

Start from the beginning, if you haven’t already.

Parenthood.

Parenthood

Parenthood.  Have you seen it?

This has to be one my FAVORITE all time shows.  The story line is amazing.  The actors are stellar.  It is laugh until you cry funny.  And you’ll cry a lot!  And you’ll laugh even more.

It is so real and so on point with everything that a family would deal with.  I see so much of my family in this show.

I love how the scenes flow and the actors make is look so easy.  I’ve never watched a show where everyone talks over one another like they do here.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.

What do you think?  Have you seen it and did you love it too?

Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series (Deluxe Edition) – Amazon Gold Box Deals

Hello!  I couldn’t believe what was in the Gold Box Deals today when I checked it today.

When my Mama was a kid, her and her baby brother would race each other home every afternoon after school.  Whoever got home first got to choose what they watched on television.  My Uncle Wyatt wanted to watch Gilligan’s Island and my Mama wanted to see Dark Shadows.  Straight up a mountain for over a mile.  They had to both be in excellent shape, doncha think?

What was your favorite show after school?  I have to say I think mine might have the Brady Bunch when I was their age. *smile*

The X-Files.

x files

The X-Files.  Do you watch it?  I didn’t see this show in the 90’s when it first started up, basically because I really don’t  or didn’t watch all that much TV to begin with and it wasn’t my forte back then! Or so I thought.

But, now I have teenagers who will actually stay home and watch TV with us and this is one the shows that we are currently binge watching at the moment.

I LOVE it.  We are currently in season 4 ( no spoilers!) and I have to say that my overall favorite episode of all time (so far) is from season 3 – “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space“.  Oh. my. word.

What do you think?  Did you love the show or hate it?  Have you ever seen it or will you watch it now?
