I picked this book up on Friday and once I started it, I almost couldn’t put it down.  I finished it in about 12 hours.  I love to lose myself in a book.  It almost never happens anymore, but this one did it.

The first 40 or so pages focus on the Governor of Port Royal.  Don’t let this dissuade you from picking up this novel.  You meet the main cast and things are off like a rocket.

The setting is 1665 in Jamaica’s Port Royal.  The cast of characters’ is headed up by Captain Charles Hunter.  The plan is to heist a Spanish galleon filled with treasure.  The sheer terror, adventure and adrenaline rush from the pages don’t stop until the very last page.

I love it when I can get my history from a novel.  This book is brimming with it.  Here is a very small tidbit that will whet your appetite.  Did you know that Harvard was established in 1636?  Me either!  I mean think about that, Jamestown was only settled in 1607 and they established Harvard 29 years later?

Oh the things you will learn!

I cannot recommend this book enough.  Especially because this is the last of Michael Crichton’s work.  He had actually already passed away in 2008 when this was discovered, complete, in his papers.  Amazing.
