I must have a book at hand to be able to function.  Or a magazine.  Or a shampoo bottle.  Words are nourishment for my mind and are essential to my well-being.  In this space each week I’ll tell you what I’m reading and you can tell me what you’re reading and we’ll all be happy!

FICTION

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

I had bought Liv the book Bitterblue last summer when Hayden and I were out and about at one of my local thrift store haunts, not realizing that it was the third book of a series.

When I was in the library a few days ago I picked up Graceling, which is the first.  It says very clearly that you don’t have to read this set in order, that they are each a stand alone book, but I just can’t stand it.

Anyway, she was in the middle of a book and I wasn’t interested in the one I was reading, so I picked it up.  I’ll write a proper post about my thoughts on it later, but it was awesome!

NON-FICTION

The One Hundred by Nina Garcia

Do you ever do something like this?  I love to wander the stacks at the library.  I always have, it’s one of my happy places.  Last week I had an eye appointment and knew that I would be there awhile.  I went to the library and wandered the stacks looking specifically for a book that would fit in my purse.  You should try it sometime!  You will amaze yourself at some of the wondrous things you’ll find, that you ordinarily wouldn’t pick up.

This was one of those books.  It is fascinating.  Hayden picked it up off of the coffee table when I brought it home and asked if it was a joke!  I assured him the book wasn’t a joke, but he kept insisting that he thought it was.  I asked him why and he said, “Well of course everyone would have most of what’s in here already”.  Hmmmm.  He is much more worldly than I was at 19!

COOKBOOKS

Weber’s Time to Grill by Jamie Purviance

Oh my love of cookbook’s.  It never wanes.  This book is big, bold and beautiful.  I love it!

MAGAZINES

Magazines.  Always the magazines.  Right now Amazon has Real Simple magazine and Southern Living for $5.00!!  For a year!!  This is big news people.  I love this magazine.

All of this is what was on my nightstand this past week.  What have you been reading?
