As usual, I am late to the party on the book by Marie Kondo, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Have you read it yet? I was warned by a friend that it had a lot of odd and – let’s just be honest here – weird connotations to it. But, I was also told that it was well worth reading. I agree.
The whole premise of this book is “Does this spark joy?”. The first time I read that I thought, whaaaat? But by the time I had finished this book, I got it. Do all of the things in your home please you? Do you love the things that surround you? If not, then why in world am I keeping this stuff?!?
I started my get rid of all the stuff journey about three years ago. Long before I had ever heard of this book. But even now, as I look around my house, I have been asking myself this question and let me tell you that a lot of the things that I thought that I needed to keep are going to live at someone else’s house!
All of the stuff just makes me tired! I always feel so much better after I have taken a load of stuff off to the Salvation Army.
I have noticed too, that I am very careful about what I bring home from all of my treasure hunt’s! I more often put back whatever I have accumulated in my cart than bring it home. If I don’t love it, it doesn’t come home with me.
There are so many more great little nuggets in this book, I think that you should definitely pick it up!
Have you read it? What did you think about it?
