What I’m Reading Right Now. 01.17.18

Antique Feather Copper Pen Stem Metal Nibbed Pen Writing Quill LL-14We’ve had snow days, snow days and more snow days here.  This makes me happy when we are all home together with nothing to do but be together with nowhere pressing to be.  Togetherness does cut into my reading time, but I’ll take it.

Here’s what I’ve been reading this week.

FICTION

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I picked this up at the library last week.  I’ve only just started it, and I know absolutely nothing about it, but it’s interesting so far.  Have you read it?  What did you think?

PURSE BOOK

Living Well, Spending Less by Ruth Soukup

If you spend any time waiting, you need a purse book.  Standing in line at the post office, at the grocery store, in the dentist’s office, on the metro, any time you are just waiting, whip out your purse book and take yourself away to another place entirely.  Yes, you can mindlessly check Facebook, or twitter, but wouldn’t you rather be in a book?

Still keeping this one in my purse.  It’s so good!

COOKBOOK

The Pioneer Woman Cooks Come and Get It! by Ree Drummond

I also spied with my little eye at the library, the Pioneer Woman’s new cookbook.  It.is.Amazing.  I love it.

Look at this yumminess.  I LOVE bread.

Do your ears react to everything but GOLD?

Ever since we had Liv’s ears pierced when she was one, she has always had to wear gold earrings.  Always.  Real gold, not even gold filled.  If she didn’t, the post would cause her ears to turn red, swell and itch unbearably.  My Mama is the same way.

For years, she was restricted in what earrings she could pick out and eventually she just stopped wearing them altogether.  Until I figured out my little trick.  Now she can wear ANY earrings.

Fingernail polish.  All you have to do is paint the posts of any earring, and it seals them so that the metal doesn’t react with her ears.  Now she can wear all of the cheap and wacky earrings to her hearts content.  Try it and see if it works for you.

Here’s the link to those awesome dinosaur earrings above if you want to get yourself a pair!

NOTE:  I am NOT a Doctor!!!!!

I am telling you what worked for us.  If you still have a reaction, PLEASE stop wearing cheap earrings!!

Don't Let the Muggles Get You Down Glass Coffee Mug - Makes a Great Gift for HP Fans!

Ahhhh, January, everything starts to slow down and I’m ready for it.  Not to mention we have 8 (eight!!) people in our family with birthdays this month, which makes it a pretty impressive month in my opinion.  Happy birthday to all my people in January.

I am slowly, very slowly carving out more reading time.  Are you?  Here’s what I’ve been reading.

DC Comics Wonder Woman Packable ToteFICTION

Hardcore Twenty-Four by Janet Evanovich

Oh, Stephanie Plum.  How you entertain us.  I always enjoy this set of books, they are a funny, fast and delightful series that I always look forward to.  If you have never read any of these books, DON’T start with this one.  Go all the way back to One for the Money.

COOKBOOK

CRAVE! by Cooking Light

Liv almost always asks for pie for her birthday cake.  Usually it’s cheesecake.  This year she wants strawberry cheesecake and I found a beautiful version in my copy of this cookbook.  It doesn’t matter that the recipe is for cherry cheesecake!  I’ll post the recipe if it turns out!

Grocery Shopping Trip 01.05.18

Walmart ended up with our money this week.  I am not separating out food and household items this year.  What I spend is what I spend.  Included in this shopping trip was our food for the week, the cats food, household stuff (like toilet paper!) and a birthday present for Liv.

She was shopping with me just after Christmas and casually said, “You have never bought me an ugly Christmas sweater and everyone wears them at Christmas”.  When I was about to check out I glanced over into the clothes and guess what they had for $1.00!!?!!  I bought her 5 and I’m giving them to her for her birthday.  She’ll wear them for the rest of the winter.  Mark my words.  She’s a rebel like that.  They also had Christmas leggings for $0.25.  Crazytown people.

Walmart  $129.76                          Total spent for the Year:  $129.76

  • Got back this week:                            Got back for the year:
  • ibotta  $0.75                                               $0.75
  • Checkout 51 $0.00                                    $0.00
  • Receipt Hog 72 Coins                               72 Coins
  • Walmart Savings Catcher $  ?               $

The question mark for the savings catcher is because they still haven’t emailed me to tell me if I got anything back yet.  I’ll update this as soon as they tell me!

What I’m Reading Right Now. 12.31.17

Vandor Dr. Seuss 14-Ounce Tritan Water Bottle (17275)Christmas!  I love this time of year.  I hope that you have had the chance to slow down, be with your people, eat lot’s of yummy foods and savor the season and Jesus.  Comfort and Joy.  Now I have God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen running through my head.  If you want to see a cool version by Pentatonix go here.  It’s awesome.

I have carved very little time out in the last few weeks to read.  Spending time with the ones you love can seriously cut into reading time.  But, my books aren’t going anywhere and my sweet, sweet family will not always be here for me to love on.  Priorities people.  I do have them!

Marvel Comics All Over Print Knapsack Backpack Bookbag NewI did however sneak in a few minutes or twenty every night before I fell asleep.  Bedtime.  It’s for reading, right!?  Here’s what I’ve been reading.

FICTION

Year One by Nora Roberts

I have been impatiently waiting for this book to come out.  You know my love of a good Nora Roberts book.  I don’t want to give ANYTHING away, so I’ll be very vague.  First.  I liked it, and I will go so far to say it’s not her typical book.  I will also say that I thought parts of it felt…..rushed.  I’m going to reserve a true judgement of it and reread it in the deep winter when I am avoiding scrubbing my floors.  I’ll hide in my room with this book and then decide.

COOKBOOK

The Bread Machine Gourmet by Shea MacKenzie

I tried out a new recipe on my unsuspecting family at Christmas.  It was good, but I think it’s needs a lot of tweaking.  It was not through the fault of the book though.  There are some amazing looking recipes in this little book.  You should check it out.

Bread.  How I love thee.  Yum.

What I’m Reading Right Now. 12.12.17

I love you Like A Hobbit Loves Second Breakfast 11 Ounces Coffee Mug Willcallyou

Life.  It gets in the way of reading, I tell you.  Everything feels like it’s been in warp speed lately and it’s eating away at my reading time.  Not good, people.  Not good at all.

Denton managed to crack a tooth, by eating, of all things and we’ve gone to dentist’s and doctor’s and Urgent Care’s and root canal specialist’s and round and round and round it seems.  I’ll give you an update about all that soon.  It’s a doozy of a story that’s not over yet.

FICTION

The Chemist by Stephanie Meyer

The Chemist by [Meyer, Stephenie]If you looked at the author of this book and you didn’t like the whole vampire, werewolves love triangle of her other hit books, you may decide that you aren’t going to even give this book a try.  At least that’s what I thought.  Ahem.  This book, in my humble opinion, knocks it out of the park.  I really, really liked it.  Just pretend that you’ve never heard of those other books, and you’ll enjoy it that much more!

I am LOVING this book.  She is so genuine.  You should definitely check this one out!

COOKBOOK

Fight Back With Food by Editors of Reader’s Digest

Another gorgeous full color cookbook.  This one is packed FULL of good info on food I love too.  For instance, Denton has always wondered how I made it to adulthood with dying of scurvy, or some other dreadful disease.  Did you know that potatoes are full of Vitamin C?  I didn’t either!  That’s why I’m not dead!  All I ate in high school was potatoes, morning, noon and night.  Seriously!  Anywho, this is an awesome book, you should get yourself a copy, pronto.

Roasted Harvest Vegetables.  I’m in love.  Doesn’t that look lovely?

Christmas Gift Ideas: Cat Window Seats

K&H Pet Products Kitty Sill Deluxe with Bolster Tan Kitty Print 14" x 24"
$24.34
Are you a cat person?  We are.  We have three.  One of the things that I have noticed in the past year is the lack of any way for our kitties to see outside.  None of our windows go to the floor and our front door is solid up to the handle where the glass begins.  Not optimal for kitties to watch the native wildlife.

We used to have one of these when Denton and I lived in North Carolina with our first cat.  She used it all.the.time.  I have no idea what happened to it.  So this year on the list of things we need to buy is cat window seats.  I think they are going to love them!  Here are some of my picks.
