Library Due Date Card Coffee Mug - Gift for readers, librarians

I must have a book at hand to be able to function. Or a magazine. Or a shampoo bottle. Words are nourishment for my mind and are essential to my well-being. In this space each week I’ll tell you what I’m reading and you can tell me what you’re reading and we’ll all be happy!

It has returned to summer here in Virginia, much to my sadness. There is nothing I love more than curling up on the couch with a good book when it’s rainy and cool outside. Hopefully soon. Things have settled into a rhythm for us, which means more reading time for me. Yay!

Here’s what I carved out time to read this week.

FICTION

Dangerous Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton

I mentioned last week that I had started Curious Minds and that I would let you know what I thought of it. I really liked it, enough for me to pick up Dangerous Minds which is the next in the series. And I liked this one even more. They are an easy read, the plot is entertaining, and I liked the characters. I do LOVE the Stephanie Plum series, and it’s in the same vein. If you are looking for book’s that will be a quick, amusing read, these will definitely fit the bill.

Hood by Stephen Lawhead

I picked up the third book in this series last summer at a yard sale because it looked like something Liva would like to read, and it was $0.50! When I figured out is was part of a series I waited until I found the other two, which took me until now. I could have gotten my library to order them for me, (they didn’t have them), but I always hesitate to have them do that if it’s an author that I’ve never read.

I am about halfway through this first book and I really, really, like it. I’ll update you about it later! Liv hasn’t picked it up yet. Which means nothing. 🙂

COOKBOOK

The food and cooking of MEXICO South America and the Caribbean by Jane Milton, Jenni Fleetwood, and Marina Filippelli

I picked this book up some time ago, and it is beautiful. You know that I think all cookbooks should have lots of color photos, so that you can see what it’s supposed to look like in reality. This one is chock full of them. I can’t wait to try some of the recipes and I think tonight it will be the Burritos, just without the chicken since Liv won’t eat meat. I’ll let you know how they turn out.Love it!

MAGAZINES

My magazines. You know my love of a real magazine. These are the ones that I had on my nightstand this week. Cosmo is ridiculous, as always. I definitely will not be renewing this when it expires. But, Southern Living and bon appetit, absolutely. I love them.

Here are all of the magazines that are all $5.00 or less for a year, including bon appetit!

All of this is what was on my nightstand this past week. What have you been reading?

If you like this post, please share it. Thank you!

Here are all of the other books I’ve been reading this year.
