Ad Astra

Ad Astra.  Have you seen it?  This movie follows an astronaut (Brad Pitt) who goes into space in search of his lost father (Tommy Lee Jones), whose experiment threatens the solar system.

Movie night has been on hold for us over the past few months.  I don’t think that any of us have felt like trying to concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes, even if it would give us the oblivion that our minds are craving.  Or maybe that’s just me, and my family just doesn’t want to watch a movie.

This week though we were ready.  I knew nothing about this movie going into it, other than it had Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones, and that was enough for me.  Tommy Lee Jones is always a favorite in my book and Brad Pitt has hooked me since Interview with the Vampire.  Loved the book; loved the movie too.  I’ll watch pretty much anything with him in it. I also love Ruth Negga and she did an outstanding job as always.  I didn’t actually know that she was in the movie until her character showed up.  Good surprises.

This movie surprised me.  I actually really liked it.  A lot of the time during a movie I’ll catch myself thinking, How much longer is this movie going to last?, but this one kept my interest and I didn’t even realize that the time was clicking right on by.  And isn’t that the point of a film?  To take you out of yourself and put you there with the characters?

I highly recommend if you want something to engage your mind for a couple of hours with some excellent actors to keep you company.

Have you seen it?  What did you think?

You can find all of the other movies we’ve watched lately, here if you are interested!
