Decluttering

Last week I gathered up more of the things that I have accumulated in the go away pile – which has grown larger and larger until it has taken over an entire section of my bedroom.  It has become amazing and very distressing at the same time.

Everyone at my house has been adding to the dangerously tilting mountain and it needed to be dealt with.

Let’s see what is going to live with someone else this time.

More magazines.  As I was leaving the bedroom, I spotted a stack of magazines that I had deliberately put aside as soon as they came in the mail and then I just stepped around them until I forgot they were there.  Do you do these things too?

I still do not understand how Cosmo is being printed.  There is literally nothing of value that I can find in this magazine.  Well, people are strange and will spend their money on lots of things that I would find useless so…..

I culled through my cookbooks again.

In the giant teetering pile of clothes that are overflowing from the go away wicker basket I found all of this.I also decided that this little beauty had to go.  I told my brother and my Mama that my teeth are worth a LOT more than the way this things looks in my kitchen.  Neither Denton nor I can use it as a step stool because it attempts to collapse.  Even Liv and Hayden put a strain on its tiny joints, so I don’t know who they designed this thing for.  So out it goes and my sturdy wooden step stool has gone back in.More “extras” that are making my life infinitely harder.  I have discovered that the more things I have the more often I have to clean them…….Even more “extras”.And now we come to part of the towering mountain of clothes that needed to leave our house.  Hayden has jumped on the bandwagon of If I Don’t LOVE It….

Which is making this Mama sad, because I miss when he wore the Oscar the Grouch and Kermit the Frog t-shirts – you know – when he was 14.  Sigh….More…..and more t-shirts…..And then some more t-shirts….

All of this stuff went away on Thursday, so if anyone is reading this now, please don’t be disappointed that you can’t request it now.

I am actually going through the towering mountain of stuff that we have accumulated; it has shrunk immensely, with the hope that I can completely empty it out before the start of the new year.

Because we all know that I still have many, many things that are taking up room in my house and causing me to clean more than is necessary.

How is the decluttering going at your house?  Or have you found the perfect amount of things that you love and need and want to surround yourself with?  I’m getting there.  I can spot things instantly in my closet now that I know have no place there, but I didn’t want to add to the teetering pile any more yet, so they will be next on my agenda in the new year.

Until next time……

Adoptable Love. Sante Fe, NM

One of the things I am passionate about is finding everyone their perfect match in a pet.  Our family has always had a pet.  Does yours?  We’ve never paid for a pet, unless you count the fee at the local shelter, but a lot of our family has.  We have just always looked to the shelters first (or the local dump!).  I think everyone should always look to the shelters first, because there are so many lovable animals waiting to be rescued.  Here are a few of the sweet fur babies that are available in shelters right now.    I wish that I could show them all to you so that you can go find your new love today!

There are 884 pets waiting to be adopted in the Sante Fe, NM area today.  Here are just a few of them!  Click on the photo to find out more about these sweet animals.

Engagement Rings. How much would you pay?

IMG_0736

IMG_0742

I just read an article in the December 2015 issue of Real Simple magazine (I know – but I never read my magazines in the order they come in!) about engagement rings and what people spend on them and the consequences they found.  I just noticed that half the cover is missing!

IMG_0735

Essentially, the article said that couples are 30% more likely to divorce if you fall into the category of spending between $2,000.00 and $4,000.00 on your bling than other price ranges.

IMG_0743

I suppose because people who fall into this category are more likely to argue over money is where they were going with this angle.

IMG_0741

Firstly, my engagement ring was my mother-in-laws.  She passed it to my husband when he asked me to marry him.  I don’t know how long my MIL wore it before she upgraded, but I’ve worn it for the past 21 years.  I plan to pass it to our son when he finds the love of his life.

IMG_0738

I highly doubt that I’ll let my husband spend anywhere near that amount to replace them.  Yes, I mean let.  It’s not that important to me.  When he asked me to marry him, I would have been happy with just a band and I’m not sure that I won’t just go with that later on.

What do you think?  How much did you let your spouse spend?  Or want them to spend?
