Today, in 1878, the world’s first telephone book was issued in New Haven, Connecticut.  It was not actually a book, just a sheet with only 11 residences listed.  You could also ring up a Doctor or Dentist, the meat market or police office and of all things, a folding chair store.

Their telephone office was open from 6 AM to 2 AM and it stated that after March 1st their office would be open all night.  I’m impressed!

Later that same year they produced an actual phone book.  With multiple pages and advertises just like we have now.

Do you still use a telephone book now?  Or do you look everything up online?  I actually still use our tiny town’s local book.  It’s usually faster and more accurate.
