Bacon Bros. Public House. Yum!

My husband and I took this weekend and went to pick up our new-to-us car.  It was in Greenville, SC.  Six hours away.  My husband truly, truly, loves me!  Only he would say sure honey, you found a screaming deal on a car that’s six hours away, and even though I hate driving like it’s the plague, let’s go!

When I found the car and decided that this was the one, I had already started looking up reviews for restaurants in the area.  Bacon Bros. Public House was rated very highly by almost everyone who rated it.  We found out why.  It was amazing people!

We finished up the car business about 12:30 on Saturday and headed right over.  There was one couple in front of us to be seated, so we only waited, literally, a couple of minutes.  While we were waiting for the hostess (is it hostess if it’s a man?!?, please excuse me I have no idea what I am talking about) to come back and seat us we had another person come over and ask if we had been waited on yet.  Great service right from the front door.

As soon as we were seated our waitress brought over a bottle of water for our table.  It was lovely.  It tasted slightly of lemon.  Of course I forgot to take a picture of it, but it looked kind of like this, but a darker green:

We ordered an appetizer of Cornmeal Fried Pickles with smoked onion ranch dipping sauce.  YUM.  They were awesome.  My husband commented, can you imagine if they did this with green tomatoes?  Heaven.

I ordered The Burger.  And Onion Rings.  Oh my Lord, people.  I seriously cannot tell you in words how wonderful this thing was.  I told our server that it had to be the best burger I have eaten in my life.  And I was serious.  I mean it is made with ground chuck, ground briskett, and GROUND BACON! with pickles, cheese and a special sauce.  I had to deconstruct it to eat it is was so massive.  It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.  Sorry about that visual.

The onion rings were beer battered and so, so good.  But it was the ketchup that sets them apart by a mile.  The menu said sorghum ketchup.  It was divine.  If you’re from the south you know what sorghum is.  It has been used here for eons as a sweetener in the place of honey.  It is ambrosia.  And I’m going to make my husband replicate it because I can’t be driving 6 hours to get my new ketchup fix.

Denton got their BBQ Sampler with fries and collard greens.  He was in heaven.  It comes with ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and sausage.  I tasted everything on his plate and it made me wish I could duplicate myself just so I could have his too. Everything on his platter was amazing, but I LOVED the pulled pork.  Brisket is usually my choice if we are eating barbecue, and it was glorious, but I can’t even begin to tell you how exquisite that pulled pork was.  The smoke was perfect and I could have eaten all of it and foundered myself if he hadn’t guarded it from me.  The ribs were perfect and let me tell you that’s hard to accomplish.  We’ve eaten a lot of BBQ over the years and it’s not everyone who can make a perfect rib.  Denton’s daddy can.  It’s hard to do.

The sausage was really good too.  I have never tasted sausage like it.  We asked and our server told us what it was a Portuguese sausage called Linguica.  Weird, but good!  Now I have to confess, I do not like collard greens.  Gasp, I know!  How can I be from the south!  That’s what Denton’s family thinks!  My family loves mustard greens.  So when I get the itch to eat greens, that’s what I prefer.  But even the collard’s were amazing.  Especially when he put the house sauce on them.  Yum!  Denton was in heaven.

Their curing room is on display for everyone to see and it was pretty incredible.

Even the bathroom was pretty.  And clean!  I don’t know what the men’s room looked like, but I’m sure it was pretty too!

One of the things that really impressed me was the napkins.  They were so, so soft.  I wanted to hide them in my purse and bring them home.  I would love to have the source so that I can order them for my house.

If Denton and I were rating this restaurant, we agree that it’s a 20 out of 10.  It’s that good people.  If you are ever in Greenville, SC or really anywhere NEAR there you have to go and check this place out.  You will not be sorry, and you’ll get a fantastic meal out of it.

P.S.  The people at the Bacon Bros. Public House have NO idea of who I am or that I am writing this.  This was not a paid promotion, we just seriously loved it!

I looooovvvvee shrimp you guys.  Every single time I am within 30 minutes of a shore, anywhere, I sniff out the best seafood place that I can find.  Haha.

Magnolia st grill

Oh. My. Word.  I couldn’t believe it when we tried this place out.  It was amazing.  And it isn’t on the beach.  In fact, it’s at least 45 minutes from the nearest beach.

Don’t let the ambiance of the place turn you away from some of the best food you will ever eat!  It could definitely use a makeover, but the quality and taste of the food more than makes up for that.

I, of course got shrimp!

And it was out of this world.  Very, very large, fresh off the boat shrimp fried perfectly.  Served with fries (or another type of your choice of potato), steamed broccoli and delicious hush puppies.

My daughter got her standby too.  Fish and chips.  So did my hubby.  Double yum.  Even the coleslaw is good.  And it’s usually a giveaway in our humble opinions.

My son decided to go with a shrimp hoagie and fries.  Yum, yum, yum!

My mother-in-law got the same as me. ;0

My father-in-law got the fried oysters.  He said they were delicious!

Our server was an awesome young man who took super good care of all us while we took up an hour of his time.

You should definitely check this place out if you are ever anywhere near the vicinity of Tampa, Fl.  It’s delicious.

By the way, the awesome people we met at Magnolia Street Seafood and Grill have no idea who I am, and I am not being compensated in any way.  I just like to spread the word about amazing food.

Have You Ever Seen a Crab Spider Before?!?

IMG_0246My family and I just came back from south Florida and visiting all of our family down there, and Y’all, I just don’t know what to say.  I couldn’t believe my eyes when I got out of the car one afternoon and saw this.

IMG_0247I knew it was a spider, because I could see it’s web from about ten feet away.  Spider’s don’t bother me you guys.  Seriously, if I have to choose between a spider in my house and any other type of critter I’m going with spiders.  They eat other nasty things like ants and centipedes ~ euwwww!~ and other even worse things.  So give me a spider any day.

IMG_0248But, it’s a crab!  A crab spider!  I didn’t even know that our good Lord Jesus had made something like this.  Seriously, look at him.  I’m not saying that I want to bring him home to live in my house, but that is so cool.  And he’s 700 miles away from my house!  And it is so cool.

The Orlando Eye

Tracie eye 11

The Orlando Eye.  Have you seen it?  Have you ridden it yet?  We went this summer while we were in Florida on vacation.  It was really cool!  And really, really high! 400 feet in the air high.

Tracie eye 2

We bought our tickets online on the way to the Eye itself.  I didn’t want to chance the traffic in Orlando and miss our “flight” time.  Florida drivers should all have to take the driving test yearly!  Traffic was vicious and that’s saying something coming from me.  We lived in Washington, D.C. for two years and you haven’t seen crazy drivers until you live there.

Tracie Eye

If you purchase your tickets online with your phone, you will completely by-pass the long lines inside to purchase tickets.  This saved us at least 45 minutes.  You will walk past that line and get right into the line to the actual ride.  We paid $20.00 per person.

You’ll have your picture taken (and later they will try to sell you a very overpriced book with said photo – that my goofy husband bought!) and then you will be taken into a theater type room to watch a 4D movie about the Eye.  My 17 year old son was NOT a fan.  It is very Disney-ish.

Then it’s time to ride!

Tracie eye 9

The capsules (their word) move veeerrrry slowly.  But still, when you have a large group of people with a finite amount of time to board this thing it is slightly nerve racking.  Or at least it was to this Mama.

Tracie eye 7

They are air conditioned which is lovely in the summer in Florida.  The ride lasts for 22 minutes.  Which will fly by if you are enjoying yourself.  It will draaaagggg by if you are not a fan of heights.  Just ask my daughter.

FYI.  Florida is very flat!

Time for everyone the stumble off!  It is truly a very smooth experience.  And we enjoyed it immensely.

Have you ridden an EYE?  If so, in Orlando or where?  I would love to ride the one in London!
