I haven’t read any “new to me” books lately. I’ve still been plowing through many of my old favorites because that’s apparently what my brain wants to consume right now. I’m not fighting it, I’m actually enjoying them. You can see that list here.
But I didn’t want to leave you empty handed in case you need a new to you book to read, so I’ve decided that I’m going to tell you about books that I have read before and loved. I can’t re-read every single book I’ve ever read (oh how I wish I had that many hours in my day!), so it’s unlikely that I will get to tell you about all of them unless I just tell you about them. Did any of that make sense? When I haven’t read a new, never read before book, I’ll just tell you about a book that I’ve read in the past that I think you might want to read too. Okay? Okay.
This week I wanted to tell you about the book Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.
This is another book from my favorites pile. Yes, I am dropping another sci-fi book in your lap, but I promise you’ll like it. I wouldn’t actually classify this book as sci-fi. It is about a comet that is hurdling towards earth, and the science behind this coming catastrophe is terrifying, but this story is about the people. As all good stories are.
I will caution you about a couple of things: Firstly, this book was written in the 1970’s so prepare your mind for that and Secondly, I would suggest to both authors that they should sign up for a course in sensitivity training (or at the very least watch more Mr. Rogers), but I actually personally know people that I could also suggest need a rapid course too, so I don’t let that keep me from reading what I consider an excellent book.
Find yourself a copy of this book and settle in to let your mind be overtaken with thoughts of HOLY COW this could happen, but it will take your mind off how much Christmas is going to cost this year…..
