What's for supper?

What’s for supper at your house?

This past week we spent in sunny Florida – which was unseasonably COLD, visiting with Denton’s parents and jaunting our way around the state.  I don’t think I took one single photo of food the whole week.  I didn’t even think about it.  But, I did take lots of photos of other things and you can see a lot of them on my Instagram.  For now, let’s get on with the food!

Monday – We spent the day bebopping around in the car – Denton’s worst nightmare.  He hates driving and sitting in the car more than anything.  Which is why we fly now.  His Daddy has a passion for driving though, lol.  At supper time we ended up at a restaurant called Lightsey’s in Okeechobee.  They have excellent reviews, but I can tell you that we would skip it next time.  The best thing we had at our table was the hush puppies.  The shrimp was okay, but in my opinion, if you are paying around $30.00 a plate, the food needs to be outstanding and it wasn’t.  I did try gator and turtle.  I would definitely give a pass on turtle, but the gator was surprisingly sweet.  Both were seriously chewy, so no.  Just no.

Tuesday – Denton’s Mama and Daddy made Chili for supper and it was great.

Wednesday – Denton and I went to church with his parents and we ate a Chili’s restaurant afterwords.  It was okay.  I don’t recommend eating supper at 9:00 pm at night, so there was that.

Thursday – On Thursday we met up with a bunch of the family at a bowling alley for supper.  I had no idea that this was a thing.  There was a completely seperate restaurant attached to the place that I would never have known was there.  They had excellent burgers and fries.  The things you learn!

Friday – By this time we had left the family which is always so, so hard and made our way to the coast.  When Denton and I first got married, we spent a week visiting with his Granny and some of his Uncles.  One of the days we spent on Anna Marie Island.  It was a magical place in my mind.  We made a point of taking the kids there this trip.  I have to say, it didn’t live up to my memories.  If you had said to me, “Pick a place on the beach, any place”, this would have made the top three in my head from my memories.  It’s very densely populated now, and the beaches are not what we remembered.  But.  We ate Oma’s pizza for supper that night and oh wow.  It was really, really outstanding.

Saturday – By Saturday night we had worked our way inland towards the airport to spend the night.  Our flight left at 6:00 am Sunday morning which meant we had to be up by 3:30 am to get through security.  We had an early supper at Outback and it was delicious.  Who doesn’t love a bloomin’ onion?

Sunday – Exhaustion had set in by supper time on Sunday and we all voted to eat Wendy’s.

I can tell you that I am completely sick and tired of eating out.  Homemade, yummy comfort food is on my horizon.
