My fortune from my cookie this weekend when we ate Chinese!

I have found that the only way I get anything accomplished is to have a clear path to follow.  I am absolutely not a fly by the seat of my pants type of person.  So this year I have decided to lay out some goals to strive for and see how I do.  We shall see.

  • Go on a date with Denton every single week.   Marriage is work people.  Don’t let anyone tell you differently.  It’s not bad work, but it is something that needs to be tended to and nurtured.  Your spouse is one of the most important people in your life, you should want to spend time with them and cultivate that relationship.

When you work more than 80 hours in the work week and you can’t remember your own name, going on a date isn’t that high on your priority list.  Hopefully Denton’s schedule will ease up next week and we’ll make this one happen.

  • Free Friday Download from Kroger each week.   Free stuff people, what’s not to love?

Seriously, how hard is it to remember to log in and click the download button?  Apparently, it’s pretty darn hard, because I didn’t do it this week.

  • Try a new recipe each week  I have lists and lists of new recipes that I have saved to my Evernote account, and hundreds of cookbooks, that are just sitting there forlornly waiting on me to try them and see how delicious they are.  This is the year to find new foods that my family will enjoy.

Liv and I tried a new chickpeas recipe and she loved it!  I’ll post it this week.

  • Track our grocery spending   Spent $83.76  Got back $1.50 Ibotta; $0.25 Checkout 51; $3.18 from Savings Catcher

I spent our hard earned money at Wal-Mart this week.  I used the Savings Catcher to see if I get anything back from Wally world (yes!) – last year I got back over $50.00 so that is definitely worth the minute it takes me.  I also used Ibotta and missed out on $2.00 because I recycled the packaging before I scanned my barcodes!

Ibotta is a way for you to earn cash on purchases when you shop.  Check the Ibotta app before you shop, then upload the UPC code and your receipt and get paid once your balance hits $20.  Join Ibotta with this link  (my referral link) and get $10 free!

  • List something new on Etsy and Ebay each week
I find so many beautiful treasures each week that I can’t keep them all.  Otherwise our house would like a hoarders episode.   So, I pass them along to other lovely people via Etsy and Ebay.

Complete fail.  Maybe next week.

  • The donation box  Mine is a pink tote that I keep in my closet.  Everyone knows that if something doesn’t fit anymore, it goes into the pink tote.

This week I took 141 items to our local Salvation Army.  Of course I forgot to take a photo.  This included clothes, stuff from the kitchen, books, magazines, household items and some miscellaneous stuff.  Did you donate anything this week?

  • Read a new book each week  I will forever love Nora Roberts but sometimes you have to broaden your horizons, right?

This week I have been reading The Best of Amish Cooking by Phyllis Pellman Good.  Do you read your cookbooks like they are novels or is it just me?  It’s great!

  • Gardening of some sort  Every single year, Denton and I decide that we are going to plant a small garden.  And then life comes along and gets in the way.  Hopefully since this is on my list, I can remember to tackle this one this year.

Fail, but it is January after all.

  • House project’s

This week in between Denton being at work for 24 hour stretches we have been ripping out carpet and laying down our new wood floors.  I’ll write a proper post for you later this week.

  • Track how much water I’m drinking  ~  I know that I need to be drinking more water every single day, so I’m going to keep track and see how I’m doing.  I also know that you have zero interest in how much water I’m drinking, just skip this portion if you like!

I only glugged down 2 glasses of water each day, but hey, that’s better than I did last year, so I’m counting this as a win.
