Book Haul! October 2018

One of the best things, in my opinion, about yard sales and thrift stores are the books.  We love books at our house and we buy a LOT of them throughout the year.  But, I don’t want to go broke; ergo, yard sales and thrift stores.

If you are worried that the authors are getting the shaft when you buy a used book, here is an excellent article about buying used versus new.  And yes, we still buy new books too.  Who doesn’t love stepping into a Barnes and Noble?  The smell alone draws me in, just like a library.

October was a great month to pick up books!  I found some real gems and can’t wait to dive into them; a couple I already have.  Some of the picks were mine, some were Hayden’s and others were Olivia’s.  Have fun trying to pick out whose is whose.  You can also click on the photo of the books, where you will be able to purchase your own copy of all of the excellent books I found this month.

Here’s what we found:

Mark Twain – The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Mark Twain – Pudd’nhead Wilson
Nicholas Sparks – The Best of Me
Nicholas Sparks – Safe Haven
Liane Moriarty – What Alice Forgot
Dwight D. Eisenhower – At Ease: Stories I Tell To Friends
Carolly Erickson – Her Little Majesty ~ The Life of Queen Victoria
Diana Gabaldon – The Fiery Cross
Nathaniel Hawthorne – The Scarlet Letter
Alan Kaufman – Jew Boy
Alice Hoffman – Here on Earth
Rinker Buck – The Oregon Trail
Carlos Fuentes – The Death of Artemio Cruz
Leonard Nimoy – I Am Spock
Gayle Forman – Just One Day
New American Standard Bible – Giant Print
Dana Hand – Deep Creek
Jean M. Auel – The Clan of the Cave Bear
Nik Wallenda with David Ritz – Balance ~ A Story of Faith, Family, and Life on the Line
Nickolodeon Paw Patrol – Stuck on Stories
Scott Westerfeld – Extras
Janet Evanovich – Wicked Appetite
John Sedgwick – The Dark House
Bible
Stephen King – Rose Madder
Chip and Joanna Gaines – The Magnolia Story
Stephen King – Insomnia
Stephen King – Lisey’s Story

And now onto the cookbooks.  Yes, yes, I know what you are thinking.  She does NOT need any more cookbooks.  I have even uttered those words myself.  But, when you find them for 10 CENTS each, you have to give them a home.  Right?  Right?!?

Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook
Padma Lakshmi – Tangy Tart Hot & Sweet
The Best of Fine Cooking Soups & Sandwiches
Gerald Hirigoyen with Lisa Weiss – Pintxos ~ Small Plates in the Basque Tradition
Martha Stewart’s Cookies – The very best treats to bake and to share

The Book of Crepes & Omelets
Heidi Swanson – Super Natural Every Day ~ Well-loved recipes from My Natural Foods Kitchen
Better Homes and Gardens – Garden Fresh Meals ~ More than 200 delicious recipes for enjoying produce at its just picked peak
Mario Batali – Holiday Food

I believe that’s everything we picked up this month.

Side note:  You guys, I just can’t leave the bibles when I find them at the Goodwill Outlet.  I have a sneaking suspicion about where all of the items that don’t get snatched up go and I just can’t.  I’ll take them to church and leave them in the pews for someone who might not have their own copy.

What books did you pick up in October?

  1. That’s a really good idea about the bibles. I’ve never thought of that. But now, I’ll do the same! Thank you for a great suggestion!

  3. Hi, Tracie! My last comment was partially correct, but I didn’t pay attention when I wrote it. Anyway, on another note, I’m now following you on Twitter. Take care!

    1. I love the Clan of the Cave Bear series. I’ve read it repeatedly over the years. I can’t wait to dive into the one about Queen Victoria!
