All the things. 04.10.17

Did you pop into any thrift stores or yard sales last week?  I did.  Here’s what I found.

By the way, just in case you have a burning desire to purchase any of these items, and you can’t wait to find them at your own thrift store, just click on the photos and it will take you to an item like it.  😎

Earlier this year,  I bought one of these for the kids bathroom.  It’s a cup with a lid on it.  We have three cats in the house and frankly I don’t like the idea of getting up in the middle of the night and getting a drink of water, after Batman or someone else, has licked my cup for me.  I thought this one was adorable.  $1.29

This is a giant candle and it smells lovely!  $1.99!

Liv loved the stars pattern on this one and it smells like vanilla.  Always a winner.  $1.00

This set of candles is from the Swan Creek Candle Co.  They are soy, which I love and they smell like heaven.  $2.99 each.

Have you seen Wicked?  I have no idea what it’s even about, but I saw this version for $0.59 so I think I’ll try to fit it into my reading next week.  Suze Orman is always an interesting read, and for $0.59 I couldn’t pass it up.

Another lovely candle for $0.59 and two trail size things to try out.  The one on the right is from Merle Norman and was $0.69 and the one on the left is from ?????????????.  It was also $0.69.  I have already tried the makeup remover from Merle Norman and I really liked it.

This is one of my favorite finds.  It’s two separate ceramic colanders.  I felt like they were definitely worth $4.99 for BOTH.

I have been on the lookout for sweaters that have pockets.  Do you know how rare they are.  NONE of mine have pockets and it drives me bonkers.  So when I found this one, I jumped!  $3.79

I found these last week and I can’t wait to give them a beautiful coat of spray paint.  Brass has never been my thing.  Number one, I am not going to polish them.  So, spray paint to the rescue.  I have done this many times and I love the way they turn out.  I think this time I’m going to go for a hammered silver look.  We’ll see.  $3.99 each.

So I spent $29.17 this week.  Did you find any amazing deals?

By the way, just in case you have a burning desire to purchase any of these items, and you can’t wait to find them at your own thrift store, just click on the photos and it will take you to an item like it.  😎

A new to me Coke glass to replace the one I smashed to smithereens.  $0.20.

A new wrestling buddy for one of my nephews for Christmas.  $1.50.

Did you know this is a thing?  I didn’t, but I don’t know what I did without it.  Yes, I do.  I stood and muttered under my breath the entire time I was trying to fill taco shells.  Love it! $0.59.

Here’s another one.  Know what this one is?  It’s a butter bell.  You fill the bell with butter and the crock with a little cold water and voila!  You have room temperature butter, all.the.time.   I love, love, love this thing.  $1.99.

Open display wall shelves.  I haven’t decided if these are going in my bedroom or Liv’s.  I’ll let you know.  $1.50

Chargers.  Each set of four was marked $1.29 each.  They had another one, a single lonely used charger laying with these for $0.99!

Yum!  Olivia has already confiscated this one.  $1.99An Eric Carle book to add to my collection and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson. $0.50 and $0.79.

I have had this on my “be on the lookout list” for a while.  $3.00

I added six new Princess House items to my collection.  I believe that I will use these for desserts.  $0.20 each.

A new purse.  I love it!!  I love the size and the short and long straps.  It’s perfect.  $3.00

So I spent $18.84 this week.  Did you find any amazing deals?

All the things. 03.21.17

This was a great week for things I have on my wish list.  Let’s get started.

I’ve had these on my “lookout” list for a while now.  Since Christmas actually.  At Christmas I’m going to hang them on all of my front windows.  I bought seven of them.  For $1.99 each.  There was a lady in line behind me who very casually said “How much are on those?”  When I told her, her face flushed and she said “I bought some of those at Christmas and I paid $12.99 each for them”.   This is why I keep a running list of things I definitely want to find at yard sales and thrift stores.  A savings of at least $76.93!  Yes! and thank you.

I have a beautiful woven basket in my kitchen that I keep my potatoes in.  But it is constantly in the way and we move it from place to place depending on what we are doing in the kitchen.  These are perfect.  I’ll show you what I did with them in another post. $1.99 for both!  Woo-hoo!

The older I get the more picky I am about my footwear.  They have to feel amazing or I’m not going to wear them.  These are awesome.  They are brand new and still had the stickers on the bottom.  $3.00Milk glass.  How I love thee.  This was $0.99 and when I got it home and took off the 14 yards of plastic, hideous sticky tape, this was inside.

Yay!  Two for one.  $0.99 for both.  Do you collect any type of glassware?  I love milk glass.

Another item that’s been on my watch list.  I absolutely adore my cast iron skillets.  Sometimes just a skillet won’t cut it though.  This is a dream.  I scrubbed this baby up and used it last night to grill all of our subs for supper.  It.Is.Awesome. $3.99!

Don’t mind the filth.  It scrubbed up beautifully.

This is made by S K Keramik from Germany and it’s red.  That was enough for me to buy it to keep my ladles in.

I LOVE red.  It’s so pretty.  And now it’s useful.  $0.59.
Look at these pretties.  They are faux fur standard size pillow shams.  Liv is going to love them on her bed.  Somehow that girl works her pillowcases off, every single day.  Since these are shams, it’ll be a lot harder for that to happen.  They washed up beautifully too.  $1.00 for both.

A new cookies cookbook!  $1.99Here’s something that I saw, but didn’t buy.  It rotates your Christmas tree.  I just don’t think that I need this in my life.  My cat’s have a hard enough time resisting the tree, can you imagine?  But apparently if you do you’re going to pay through the nose.  These things are around $100!  $7.99, someone went home happy. So for a total of $27.48 I think I made out like a bandit this week.  And ticked off quite a few of my find and buy items.  What did you find this week?

Did you find any treasures last week?  I found a few.  Here they are.

Another Eric Carle book for my collection ($0.50).  A lovely copy of Betty Crocker’s Big Book of Bread, yum, for $0.99.  And last but not least a copy of Food Networks Making it Easy ($1.99).

Is there anything on earth better than a crisp, new planner?  I love planners.  They make my life complete.  Or at least more manageable, which is a must for a control freak like me.  I found this one at our local Salvation Army last week for $0.79.  Yes, I know that the year is 2002 on the front of this baby.  But it is perfect inside.  It’s the perfect size!  It has everything I want in a yearly planner.  Month at a glance, with space for what bills have been paid.  Check.  Week at a glance, check.  Did you know that the calendar year aligns itself every few years.  This 2002 planner will work perfectly for 2019.  So, for 79 cents I have my planner for 2019, which will be here way before I’m ready.

Scissors.  Are there ever enough scissors at your house?  Not at mine, so if I find awesome one’s like these, for $0.89, I grab them up.

Raphael.  My nephew is bonkers over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles right now, so he is going to flip over this one.  $1.59  Woo-hoo!

I am a firm believer in the things you surround yourself with, you should love.  Even the mundane and useful things.  This pretty little thing is going to replace my plain Jane jar that holds my wooden spoons.  Happiness.  It’s easy sometimes. $1.59.

So, for $8.34 I am very happy with my purchases.  What treasures did you find this week?

How was your week?  Mine was pretty slow in the collecting of things department.  This makes Denton happy.

Here’s what I found last week that makes me happy.

Books, books and more books.  I agree with Thomas Jefferson, I cannot live without books.  I finally got down to brass tacks and went through my JD Robb collection and discovered that I had duplicates of several of the volumes.  So I cataloged them in my evernote app and found two that I didn’t already have to add to my collection.

Hayden hadn’t read Gone Girl and we found a hardback copy and brought it home.

The Last Werewolf looks very interesting.  So does Her Fearful Symmetry.  This book is by Audrey Niffeneggar who also wrote The Time Traveler’s Wife which I loved.

Another Nora Roberts book, Island of Glass that I haven’t read yet.  And one by Christine Feehan book that my library doesn’t have.

We also found a book by Robert Harris called the Fear Index.  I had never heard of this book, but Hayden had and he definitely wanted to read it.  I told him that I will most certainly take off the dust cover before I read it, that nubbly texture is disconcerting in my opinion.  $14.50 for them all.

Are the people in your house particular about their deodorant?  Everyone in my house is.  This is what Denton uses and I buy him the body wash sometimes.  For $0.99 each, you can’t beat thrift stores!

A milk glass vase to add to my collection.  $0.99!

Last year, I took my brother a set of these adjustable measuring spoons and I think my mother thought about swiping them.  So when I ran across this one last week, I grabbed it up for her.  For $0.59, it can’t be beat!

I found both of these this week and I think I’m going to keep one and sell the other.  When I was skimming the news on my Google app earlier today, I saw where Angelina Jolie is in a new commercial for the brand Guerlain.  How does Google decide what rates as news anyway?

I don’t know why Denton has never had one of these mugs.  It’s the perfect size too.  $0.20, it was definitely coming home with me.

Liv loves fleece leggings.  My local goodwill is carrying these right now for $12.99.  $4.99 is a much better price.  Woo-hoo!

$0.99 cents each.

I am slowly wearing out my jeans.  Since I haven’t bought any in at least six years, I’d say that’s normal.  These were $4.59, so I’m happy.

Thrift stores are the bomb people!  I can’t wait for yard sale season to start!  $30.81 for everything, not including the perfume I’m going to list!

Did you go into any thrift stores or yard sales last week?  We aren’t having yard sales in my part of the world yet, but the thrift stores are always here.

Here’s what I found last week.

A beautiful Christmas church that lights up inside.  I love it.  And best of all $1.99!

These pretty little coffee cups.  Olivia has one cup of coffee every morning before she goes off to conquer high school.  But, she drinks tea like it’s going out of style.  These are perfect for that.  They are from England.  I found eight of them.  There are three different styles, New York, London and Paris.  Lovely. $4.72 for all eight.

This pretty pair of lamps, I bought with the intention of putting them on Etsy, but Liv saw them and fell in love.  I guess we’ll be keeping them and replacing something in her room, but for $3.00 each, I think we can stand the sacrifice.

$0.99 cents for 5 incandescent light bulbs.  Yes!  I have no idea how old these are, but we still use incandescent bulbs in certain spots in our house.  All of the others have been replaced with LED’s.

I am in love with this little concrete basket.  Can’t you see mint spilling out of it on my front porch?  I can.  And this way the mint is contained and won’t choke out every other thing in my front flower beds.  $1.99

A dish pan.  That’s what this is called in my family.  Until this very moment, I’ve never even questioned why we call these giant bowls that.  I am going to assume that someone used them to wash dishes in at some point in time.  We never did that though.  My Mama always popped popcorn on the stove and this is what we all devoured it from.  Anywho, I had one of these little lovelies, and it disappeared.  I have a sneaking suspicion that my amazing, bearded husband had something to do with the disappearing, but I don’t know that for a fact.  I found one at a yard sale last summer and the lady wanted $20.00 for it!  This is the only other one I’ve seen in a few years of hunting for one, at a yard sale that is.  $1.99 is awesome!

All in all I spent  a whopping $17.68 on everything.  What great deals did you find this week?

You know my love of yard sales and thrift stores.  I thought that I would create a place to show you all the things that I find.  The ones I bring home and maybe some of the ones I see but don’t bring home.  If you see something you like, I have included links in the photos to similar items.  Isn’t this going to be great?!?

Here’s what I found last week.

My best find this week.  I love this little lamp.  $2.59.  The mirror I found at the dump almost 20 years ago.  People throw away the strangest things.

A beautiful muffin tin for $1.99.  I absolutely love the pattern on this thing.

More cookbook’s that I couldn’t resist. $2 each.

I found this to replace my broken magazine holder for my Martha Stewart magazines that I keep.  $1.59.

I keep telling Hayden and Olivia that I am building my kids library for my future grandchildren.  I love Eric Carl’s books.  $0.50 each.

This beauty was $1.25 and will look lovely under one of my Christmas trees this coming year.

We ALWAYS need another throw.  $1.25.

I absolutely love this little pillow.  He was $2.00.  Here is the link to the exact one I now have.

Isn’t he beautiful.  I don’t know if I’ll keep him to use at Christmas and Thanksgiving, or if I’ll list him on Etsy.

More lovely Coca-Cola glasses.  $0.59 each.
So for everything I spent a whopping $17.35.  Not including the turkey.😉

Treasures, treasures, and more treasures.

Earlier this week I found this beauty.  For $3.99.

You can read all about it here.

On the same day, I found all of these items too.

Woohoo!  I love it when people like me donate things that they still have the original boxes for.

This little lovely is getting a make-over as we speak.  I’ll show you what I did with it later this week.

wp-1474467249194.jpg

Princess House!  Yay, for 20 cents each!  Woo-hoo!

wp-1474467231000.jpg

A new/old Pyrex bowl.  $1.99.  Yes, Denton, I do need another bowl.

What treasures have you found this week?

Christmas in September!

Now that my kids are teenagers, they are much harder to buy for than they were when they were three.  So I have them make lists.  Liv is much easier than Hayden is about this process.  He mutters for months and finally will say, “There’s really nothing that I want or need”.  Woo-hoo!  I actually am very happy with this response because my family is happy, healthy, and not in need of anything.  But you want to give them something right?

I needed wanted to stop in at Staples the last time Hayden and I drove into the big city because I received a $10.00 off $10.00 coupon in the mail.  Love those!  We ran in quickly and picked up two veeeerrrry nice mechanical pencils for $0.43.  Do your kids prefer mechanical pencils?  Mine do and they were very happy with the five dollar pencils that I paid a whopping 21 and 1/2 cents a piece for.  Score.

While we were scoping out the pencils, Hayden sat down in one of their executive chairs and said, “Wow, this is a nice chair”.  This equates jumping up and down for him.  He was very impressed with the fact that the chair had arms.  He has a computer chair that is just fine.  His only complaint is that it doesn’t have armrests.  I immediately jumped on his appreciation for the chair and said would you like one of these for Christmas?  He instantly backtracked saying I don’t know, I guess, maybe.

Since then, it’s been in the back of my mind to pick one of those chairs up when we get closer to Christmas.  And then I walked into our local Goodwill yesterday and spotted this.

For $3.99!  I promptly rolled it up front and paid for it.  I then rolled it out to my Jeep and that’s where my day started to fall apart.
Back in December I wrote this post about how we fixed the back door of my Jeep.  Well, it keeps unfixing itself.  Every time it locks itself and won’t unlock itself my amazing husband has been there to save the day and unlock it.  This has never been a problem for me because this car never leaves our tiny town.  If we go into the big city, we either take my husbands truck (yay for hauling big things home!) or the new car.  Which doesn’t lock itself all by itself.

Only yesterday, Denton was on the other side of the county on his motorcycle while I’m standing the parking lot of the Goodwill trying every single way I can think of to get this giant leather chair into my car.  I tried everything.  And after the fourth man person came along and said “Ma’am do you need some help getting that beautiful, giant leather chair in your car?” I called Denton.  And after I sat in the hideously hot Jeep talking on the phone to my Mom, guarding said chair from all the envious people casually strolling by to check it out, he finally got there.  And told me he had been looking for me at the Salvation Army!

He quickly unlocked the back door and I made him show me how to do it.  Which I should have done the first time he had to do it.  He rode off into the blistering heat and I happily drove over to the Salvation Army, where a women was walking out with a KitchenAid Mixer that she had just bought for $45.00!

Just like this one.

Arghhhhh!  Stupid door!

Anyway, when I got home I started to wrestle the big clumsy chair out of the back of the car which instantly jumped out at me, knocked me down in the driveway causing me to press the panic button on my key ring.

wp-1474467284627.jpgThis has happened to me before, not everything above, but me pressing the panic button by accident.  Once.  I didn’t know how to turn it off that time either.  I tried pushing the panic button again.  Nothing.  I unlocked and locked and unlocked the car.  Nothing.  I cranked the car.  I cranked the car and put it into gear.  Nothing.  Last time I just got in my car and drove off and it finally stopped.  I guess it gave up.  This time both of the kids are out in the yard staring at me like, why can’t you make that stupid thing stop!  And I can hear one of our elderly neighbors shouting something, probably not something I wanted to hear at just this moment.

Hayden shouts, “Hold down the panic button!”  And it worked!  Imagine that, holding down the panic button makes the panic button turn off!  Keep in mind I have owned this car for over 11 years.  And no I am not blond, why do you ask?  In my defense, Denton isn’t blond, has in IQ of almost 160 and he didn’t know this highly guarded secret either.

Regardless, we wrestled the awesome new chair into the house and he’s trying it out.  If he decides that he doesn’t like it and wants another one for Christmas that’s fine too.  I’ll just sell this one on Craigslist.

And pick out one like this.

Or this.

Or oohhhhh this one!

Happy Hunting!

Why I LOVE Yard Sales! June 4, 2016

I LOVE yard sales, people!!!  They are the best place to furnish your house, find Christmas presents, find things to sell online, the list can go on and on.  I have done all of these and more and will do it again in the future.

Here’s what treasure’s I found last weekend.

A belt sander.  I know I need this.  I really, really do, Denton!  I am very sure that I will be using this quite often and for $3 you just.can’t.beat.it.  And plungers!  We have three bathrooms people!  And one plunger.  These were brand new.  The lady said they bought them for a weird game at a baby shower and never even used them for the weird game.  She didn’t call the game weird, I did after she explained why she needed them at a baby shower.  People are strange, I tell you, strange.  And for $1 for BOTH. Yes, please!

IMG_3050

Vera Bradley Wristlet $3.00.  I love these things.  This is what I carry all the time.  I keep a big bag in my car that has everything you would need in an apocalypse, but when I shop this is all I take with me and I LOVE it.  So every time I find one at an awesome price I snatch it up.

IMG_3049

An Elgin anniversary clock.  $1.00.   Because it’s a clock, and I love clocks of all shapes and sizes.  And it was a dollar!

IMG_3023

Milk Glass for $0.50.  And it’s so pretty!  I love milk glass.  I collect very few things, but milk glass is one of my favorites.  Love the fluted edges on this piece.IMG_3024

Cast iron griddle pan for $1.00.  This thing will be awesome when I get it cleaned up and cured!IMG_3025

These little guys are hooks that you mount on the wall and hang…..something on.  I thought they were adorable. $0.70!IMG_3026

And I will have to tell you the story sometime about the drive-through zoo and Denton being scared out of his mind by an Ostrich.  Good times!   These reminded me of that!  Woo-hoo!IMG_3027

This weekend at two DIFFERENT yard sales I found enough of these candles (for a total of $3.00 for all 12!!) to light up our house at night.  Awesome!IMG_3029

Cookbooks, how I love thee.  I’ll have to hide these from Denton and pretend that I’ve had them all along.  I have a cookbook problem.  But, I gave $4.50 for all.of.them.!  I can’t wait to try out the One Potato Two Potato!IMG_3039

Another transferware turkey platter!! $3.99.  I don’t know if I’ll keep it or sell it yet.IMG_3040

A lovely little kitchen scale for $1.00.  It.is.filthy.  But it’ll clean up!  I have no idea why it won’t let me turn this photo!IMG_3041

I can’t tell if this is Princess House or not.  But I think it’s awesome anyway, this thing is about 20 inches tall!IMG_3044

I also think these are Princess House too.  I think that they are sherry glasses.  Woo-hoo!IMG_3045

As I was taking the pictures for this post, I noticed something on the battery box laying on the dining room table.  Look!  It’s a teeny, tiny grasshopper!  This thing is microscopic!IMG_3046

This is a terrible picture, but you can kind of get some perspective on how tiny this thing is.  That’s a AA battery and the blurry thing is the grasshopper.IMG_3047That is amazing, and no grasshoppers were harmed in the making of this blog post.  Denton rescued it and put it outside where it belongs.
