What’s for Supper? Thanksgiving edition

What’s for supper at your house this week?

Hello friends!  I hope that you are well.  Did you have a wonderful Thanksgiving if you are in the US?  We had a very quiet, relaxing Thanksgiving.  We missed all of our family desperately, but I have to say, not traveling on a holiday felt like…. a holiday.  Nowhere to go, or be, or a place to run off to.  That’s my families happy place.

Here is what we ate for supper last week:

Potato soup, bacon and Red Lobster Cheddar biscuits.

Spaghetti has changed at our house.  I think we will have it less, just so I can justify in my mind the cost of buying the Rao’s sauce.  It.IS.SO.SO.SO.GOOOOOD.  We also had stuffed mushrooms and garlic bread.  Yum!

Chicken tenders, green beans, coleslaw and mashed potatoes and gravy with biscuits.

Burgers, with chips, and raw onions and tomatoes.

Thanksgiving!  I made slow cooker turkey breast, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, perfect boiled eggs, cranberry sauce from a can and crescent rolls from a tube.  Perfect!

Pizza with a salad.  Yay!What's for supper?

Chicken patties on a bun with chips and tomatoes.

We also ate LOTS of leftovers at random times of the day and night.  Hayden is still asking for more turkey, which he NEVER does, so you know it was good!  I hope that you are having a wonderful time with your loved ones and that we can all be with our extended families soon.

That’s it for us.  I hope that you ate something delicious this past week.  If you did, let me know in the comments down below.  I am always looking for a tried and true recipe to spring on my family.

What’s for Supper? November 2020

What’s for supper at your house this week?

Hello friends!  How are you doing this fine Fall week?  We are finally having real autumn weather and I love it.  What’s new?

I’ve been trying to persuade myself that I need to start making at least one new dish for us each week, but it’s so easy to make the same comforting foods over and over.  Plus, I don’t have to research, plan, buy the ingredients for, and then try to cook this strange thing we’ve never had before.  But I’m trying.

I made the new to us chicken and rice dish again this week, and it turned out pretty good.  I also remembered to take photos of it so I’ll show you the recipe later this week.

Here’s what we ate last week:

Burgers.  Like I said, comfort food. Yum.

Tacos.  Yum again.

Taco Pie.  Even better!

And again, leftover taco pie.  Yay!

Chicken patty on a bun.  I love having these.what's for supper?

Chicken and rice dish.  This is really good, but I think I’m going to try the recipe in my rice cooker next time.  I’ll let you know how it turns out that way!

What’s for supper at your house this week?

Hello friends!  I hope that you are well.  It has been hot as hades here this week, which makes me want to move to Maine.  Or Alaska.  Or Minneapolis.  Somewhere, where its not still summer.  We’ve had high 70’s all week long, so I am anxiously awaiting the promised rain in our area to cool things off.

Did you cook all week or did you resort to takeout the whole time?

Here is what we ate for supper last week:

Burgers are always welcome at our house.

Alfredo with garlic toast.  Everyone loves this, and it’s pretty quick.  Also, do you have an air fryer?  I LOVE mine.  It makes everything so easy.  Even garlic bread.  Yum.

I tried a new to me recipe and it was delicious.  When I make it again I’ll post the recipe.  Chicken and rice in a baking pan and done!  Yum!

I have been craving ham for months.  At first we didn’t have any ham’s available in our stores.  And then they were almost $40 each which I was not going to pay.  Finally they are back to their normal prices, but I can’t wait until the holidays when I can stick a few in my freezer so I always have one when I want it.

Homemade pizza.  I swear until my local guy opens back up I am not buying pizza from a chain anymore.  Mine is so much better!

Liv and I went grocery shopping and well….McDonald’s cost’s as much as  a dine in restaurant for us and it’s never as tasty.  Insert sad face here.

I can’t let a week go by without making my comfort food.  Soup beans and salmon.  I DO crave this all the time.  So I don’t resist.

Hello friends!  I hope that you are happy and well.  I am still enjoying FALL.  Are you sick of hearing me say that yet?  I’m trying to get my fill before winter sets in.  Denton keeps repeating the phrase, I want it to be summer, over and over again.  Did you marry an opposite from yourself like I did?

Here is what we ate for supper last week:

Shrimp, baked potatoes and steamed broccoli.  Amazing and everyone is happy.

Chicken patties on buns with broccoli salad.  I could eat this every week and I love that its so simple.

Soup of your choice from a can with cheese sandwiches.  Yum.

Tuna sandwiches.  This is a constant request from Denton.  I’m not going to argue with him….

Especially when I want soup beans with salmon every day…..

Denton and I went into the city to pick up my new to me living room furniture and on the way home we picked up Papa John’s Pizza.  It was good, but I have to say that I seriously think I can make it better now……

Leftovers with a giant salad to give it at least the semblance of balance. 😀

Hello friends!  How are you?  I’m still just over here basking in all of the FALLness of this time of year.  I never get tired of it.  It’s glorious.

I keep waiting and wishing that one of the churches in our area will have an apple butter making day.  We are down to our last pint, but I actually just want to go, stand, close my eyes and just breathe.  My Mamaw Miller used to make it and there is nothing like that smell.  The apples, sugar and cinnamon cooking all day in a giant copper kettle over a wood fire built underneath.  If you ever find yourself near a festival or just a church who is making apple butter, treat yourself and just go stand there for a little while and breathe.  Don’t forget to buy way more jars than you think you will need for the year.

Here is what we ate in the past two weeks:

what's for supper?

Chicken patty on a bun.  I love keeping these on hand for days cooking just isn’t going to happen.

Soup beans, salmon, Mac and cheese, and roasted potatoes.

Hamburgers, chips, pickles and raw onions and tomatoes on the side.  Yum.

I have tried many, many recipes for pizza dough, but have never liked any of the ones I made.  I discovered last week that my Wal-mart carried pizza dough for $1.00!  This was a trial run with it and let me tell you – this is going to be a staple at our house from now on.  I can have *almost* pizzeria pizza ready at my house in under 20 minutes now.  It was divine.

I tried a new recipe that everyone liked.  It was a chicken parmesan pasta.  Want the recipe? I wasn’t sure how much pizza that one of the one pound doughs would actually make, so I bought four of them.  Turns out that one of those will make eight good sized pieces of pizza, so I had pizza dough left over.  No one in my house was complaining that they had to eat delicious pizza twice in one week.  They’ll probably get it again this week too!

We are settling into FALL finally here in Virginia.  The temperatures are going to climb back into the high 70’s this week, but should get back to their normal state by the weekend.  Now that I’ve updated you on our weather!

Here is what we ate in the past two weeks:

“Fake” Lasagna with garlic bread.

Burgers are always my go-to when I don’t know what to make.  Everyone is happy.

Breakfast for supper.  Yum!  Grits, eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon and fruit.

Taco salad.  This is in our future again soon.  I love taco night whether its taco pie, taco salad, burritos, or just tacos.  Yum.

Soup beans with salmon, mushrooms, onions, and all the other yummy things.

Tuna sandwiches with pickles and chips.  Delicious.

Alfredo with garlic bread.…..

Puff pastry pizza….Pancakes and bacon.

Chicken patties on buns with pickles and chips.  Love having these in the freezer ready to go for a quick lunch or supper.

Baked chicken with potatoes, green beans and crescent rolls.Pasta Primavera.  This was delicious.  Just leave out the peas!

Hamburgers with raw onions and tomatoes, chips and pickles.  Question:  I love the crumbles at the bottom of the chip bags, do you?  No one else in my family will eat them so I get them all.  Also, if I eat the regular chips from the bag I always break them into smaller pieces first.  Anyone else?

Chicken tortilla bake with chips.  This turned out yummy. I’ll post the recipe later this week.

We’ve been busy and at a standstill at our house this past week.  How about you?  If you didn’t see my last post, we added a new member to our family.  It was exciting, terrifying, and an adjustment all at once.  And will be for quite a while, I’m sure.

In the weather department, it couldn’t be more perfect.  It’s warm during the day and when dusk happens, the temps drop like a stone.  I LOVE it.  Now if only it will last until March.

Here is what we ate this past week:

I tried my hand at Chicken Parmesan.  It turned out pretty good, if a little brown, lol.

What's for supper?

Potato soup, oven bacon and corn bread muffins.  Nobody was a fan of the cornbread with the soup – definitely worth the time of making the biscuits.

Popcorn shrimp, baked potatoes, corn on the cob and sauce on the side.  Want the sauce recipe?  It is delicious and very, very simple.

Always a standby at my house is soup beans with salmon.  Some type of potatoes, this night was roasted potato wedges and asparagus, which was also on the brown side, lol.

How are you doing?  It’s finally beginning to feel like fall here in my neck of the woods!  It was 85* yesterday but the humidity was only 32% so it actually felt cool.  I love it.  Now that I’ve given you a weather update, let’s get to the food!

Here is what we ate this past week:

Hot dogs with chips and pickles.  I didn’t feel like making chili, so we did without.

Panko chicken with rice and broccoli salad.  Yum.

Homemade chicken pot pie.  It was just fine.  I’ll try another recipe I have brewing in the back of my mind and hopefully it will turn out better than fine….

Manwich sandwiches with pickles and chips.  Simple.

Our local pizza place is STILL closed.  Which is very sad for us.  So it was Pizza Hut.  It was fine….

Taco pie.  This was as usual, AMAZING.  I love this stuff.  I actually crave it sometimes.  Which is why we ate it this weekend!

August 2-9, 2020

Yay, I think I’m back on track!  And summer hasn’t been as hot this week.  It’s still summer, but I’ll take what I can get at this point.  How is your summer going?  Have your kids gone back to some semblance of school yet?  I’m just here waiting on Fall, as usual.

Here is what we ate this past week:

  • Monday.  Pigs in the blankets, baked potato wedges and broccoli salad.  Yum.

  • Wednesday. Hamburgers, chips and raw onions and tomatoes.  I’ll miss yummy tomatoes when summer is over, but I think that’s about it.

  • Thursday.   Leftovers.  I love when I have things in the fridge that people WANT to eat later in the week!  Yay for not cooking.
  • Friday.  Pizza.  Our favorite local pizza place is shut down until September (what the what?!?!?!) so it was Pizza Hut again this time.  Blegh.
  • Saturday.  Baked lasagna with garlic bread.  This was so, so good!  We used a new to us spaghetti sauce; I hesitate to say what it was, because on sale it was still $5.99 but it was so, so good.  It was Rao’s.  And it was worth every single penny.  There were NO leftovers.  I justify the cost to myself this way:  This meal rivaled anything we’ve had at Olive Garden and that would cost our family well over $80.00 and we have to put on real clothes and drive for an hour and a half one way…… Yes, it was worth it and I will buy it again.
  • Sunday.  Breakfast for supper.  Grits with eggs, bacon with hash browns, toast and fruit.  It was delicious.

What’s for Supper? July 27-August 2, 2020

What’s for supper at your house this week?

July 27-August 2, 2020

It’s Tuesday.  How in the world is it Tuesday already?  How are you keeping up with what day it is at your house?  I have to look at my phone to not only know the time – never mind that I have a clock in every room in my house (hey! I just realized I don’t have a clock in my dining room, yeehaw, I can buy another one!) – but to know what day it is too.

Actually the only way I REALLY know is if we have an appointment.  Yesterday our little Leo was neutered.  Anytime we leave our tiny town, we try to consolidate to get as much done as possible so that we don’t have to do that again.  It’s exhausting.  Mentally and physically.  This isn’t new to us, we normally do this anyway because we live at the back end of beyond, I just do not like it anymore.  Are you finding out more things about your likes and dislikes nowadays?

Also, I forgot my grocery list which made buying groceries seem like one of those game shows where they give you a buggy and you run through the store just throwing random things in there and then you collapse in a heap when you are done and then you wonder how you are going to make supper every night this week with a jar of pickles, some bacon, apples and a bag of potato chips…..

Here is what we ate this past week:

  • Monday.  Hamburgers, chips, raw tomatoes and onions.  A staple meal at our house when everyone is tired. Delicious
  • Tuesday.  Chicken and yellow rice, cornbread muffins, and coleslaw.
  • Wednesday.  Chicken fajitas, with chips and salsa.  This was Denton’s plate.   Have you ever put ranch dressing on a chicken fajita?  I tried it and now I think I’ll eat them like this from now on, it was delicious.
  • Thursday.   Leftovers.  I love when I have things in the fridge that people WANT to eat later in the week!  Yay for not cooking.
  • Friday.  Hot dogs with coleslaw and chips.  No chili on this night.  Sometimes simple is best.
  • Saturday.  Chicken salad.  I LOVE this.  I could it every single week and not get tired of it.  Have you tried this recipe yet?  Do you love it or hate it?  I have a friend who swears by the chicken salad at Walmart and I seriously do not like that stuff.  But this, this I could eat with a spoon……
  • Sunday.  Your guess is as good as mine!  We didn’t starve, so I’m guessing that we all ate something.

That’s it for us.  I hope that you ate something divine this past week.  If you did, let me know in the comments down below.  I am always looking for a tried and true recipe to spring on my family.
